Sonam Raghuvanshi, the main accused in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, was granted bail by a local court on April 28. The court’s decision reportedly stemmed from procedural lapses in her arrest by the Meghalaya Police and delays in the trial process. The case, which has drawn significant attention, continues to raise concerns from the victim’s family.
Raja Raghuvanshi’s family has strongly opposed the bail decision and is demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). His mother expressed shock over the court’s ruling, questioning how someone accused of such a serious crime could be released. She also warned that if bail is extended to other accused individuals—Raj Kushwaha, Vishal, and Akash—it could pose a threat to their family’s safety.
Meanwhile, Sonam’s brother, Govind Raghuvanshi, has publicly distanced himself from her following her release. He clarified that his recent meeting with Sonam in jail was solely for handling paperwork and not a sign of support. Govind stated firmly that he would not allow her to stay at the family home. He added that if their parents decide otherwise, he would choose to leave the house. He also mentioned uncertainty about her release timeline and future residence.
Govind further indicated that legal recourse remains open to Raja’s family, suggesting they approach the High Court if they wish to challenge the bail order.
Reacting to the development, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem said authorities respect the court’s decision but will continue pursuing the case. He emphasized that the investigation and trial will proceed according to law and expressed confidence in the evidence already presented before the court.
The case remains ongoing, with legal proceedings expected to continue amid mounting scrutiny and emotional appeals from the victim’s family.
